South Asia has achieved 63.4% gender parity (second lowest in the 8 regions globally) and has risen by 1.1% from 2022 to 2023.
The Global Gender Gap Index (2023) [The longest-standing index tracking the progress of numerous countries’ efforts towards closing these gaps over time since its inception in 2006] report states that the overall rate of change has significantly slowed down post-pandemic. As a united society, we’ve managed a 4.1% increase towards closing the Gender Gap from 2006 - 2023.
At the current rate, it will take us 149 years to reach full parity in South Asia.
While concrete statistics or conclusive reports specific to the design industry in India may be limited, we’re actively striving to create a historical report that analyses the situation over the years. We’re hoping to do this alongside the creative community, in efforts to build a more equitable future for all.
